I'm joining OpenAI to bring agents to everyone
Hey everyone — I'm thrilled to share that I'm joining OpenAI.
My mission here is to bring agents to everyone, including the people who've never touched an API in their lives. I want to build an agent that even my mum can use. Getting there means working with cutting-edge models, serious safety infrastructure, and the kind of research access that only a place like OpenAI can offer.
What about OpenClaw?
OpenClaw isn't going anywhere — it's becoming an independent foundation. Open source, community-governed, supporting multiple models and providers. OpenAI has committed to sponsoring the foundation, but it will remain fully independent. Your data stays yours.
I spent 13 years building my previous company, and when I started tinkering with AI agents as a side project, it took on a life of its own. People all over the world started using it in ways I never expected. I had plenty of offers to scale it into a big company, but that was never what drove me.
I'm a builder at heart. What I want is to change the world, not build a large company. And teaming up with OpenAI is the fastest way to bring this vision to everyone.
I'm incredibly grateful to the OpenClaw community — you all shaped what this project became. That spirit isn't going away. It's just getting a bigger stage.

Congrats on the new role! Really curious — are you working on anything else at the moment outside of the agent work, or is it all hands on deck with OpenAI?
Peter, look how far you have come! Your blog post was a great read. It's refreshing to see someone choose impact over building another unicorn. The AI agent space needs more of that mindset. By the way, are you working on anything new outside of OpenAI?
Emma! It's so great to hear from you! OpenClaw was just a really well developed beta. To be brief, I've been working on something we are calling LobsterOS, which is a single runtime operating system that's synced across your devices, allowing agents to persist across devices with a shared memory. I'm also going to try out Google's new TurboQuant for more efficient memory compression as well.
We need to catch up!!
